A good web site is still useless if it is not promoted. We can offer Web page submissions to more than 2500+ internet search engines and link lists in order to get your site seen! WYSIWYG (What you see is what you get) / DTP (Desk Top Publishers) style web pages are often complex pages automated by computer generated code. The greatest "FLASH" (Macromedia™) animation will not get surfers to your site if they can't find you in the first place.
In addition, images, movies, sounds and animations are not text searchable by the search engine spiders and robots that trawl and crawl through your site's text picking up keywords and % content relevance to surfers' search enquiries. This is often where hand-coding come to the fore, manipulating sites and the textual priorities within them to achieve higher search engine ratings. The old meaningless repetitions of keywords and invisible (background colour) texts are ignored by intelligent search engines. Some search engines use META keyword and description tags, others use your TITLE tags, others your first paragraph of text.
Frames confuse the search engines and many framed sites appear way down the listings. A big photo or company logo and "welcome - please click to enter" first page will destroy the opportunity to make a good impression on the first page. Visual impressions are all well and good but unless cleverly mixed with good textual content to impress the search engines you will not achieve high visitor awareness of your existence.
Unless your site it properly categorised and regularly resubmitted (as often as every 4 weeks is sometimes necessary) you will disappear from the ratings. Using link lists as well as search engines and getting other sites to link to you will also help your online presence.
Surfers expect to get something for nothing, so don't just sell, whether its information, service or product, offer something for free in addition to your commercial aims.
